Dr. Falck

Dr. Falck

Veterinarian

After earning her undergraduate degree in zoology and obtaining a Master’s in marine sciences, Dr. Carol Falck was pursuing her PhD in biological oceanography when she had one of those “A-ha!” moments. While camping in the Florida Everglades, Dr. Falck’s mother made the astute observation that she would make an excellent veterinarian. In that moment, Dr. Falck suddenly realized that veterinary medicine would allow her to combine her interests in the sciences and physiology with her lifelong love of pets. The rest, as they say, is history!

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Falck earned her veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine before completing a small-animal internship in Washington, D.C. From there, she moved to South Florida to officially launch her career as a veterinarian. Dr. Falck worked at two separate animal hospitals before opening her own holistic animal hospital at the encouragement of her clients—she was the owner and founder of one of the very first holistic pet clinics in Florida, Friendship Animal Wellness Center!

Dr. Falck moved to the mountains of northern Georgia and, after seeing a need for a house-call practice in the area, launched Petwise in 2011. She loves serving as an integrative practitioner and enjoys using alternative treatments like acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Most of all, she likes working with owners to give their animal companions the highest possible quality of life for as long as she can.

In terms of professional accolades, Dr. Falck is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) – a distinction she’s proudly held for 25 years. She has also served as the Chair of an American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) committee and has been attending their conferences for more than a decade. Dr. Falck has also been nominated for an Animal Game Changer Award, which she discussed in her recent interview with Dr. Karen Becker.

In addition to being the owner and practitioner at Petwise, Dr. Falck is widely viewed as an expert in her field, authoring numerous articles, making regular TV and radio appearances, and presenting lectures and wet labs at national veterinary conferences, including the AHVMA and Midwest Veterinary Conference (MVC). To date, she’s had one peer-reviewed article published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAHVMA) with another pending.

Away from work, Dr. Falck enjoys clogging, cooking, cycling, hiking, and playing guitar. At home, she and her husband have an adorable but mischievous Australian Shepherd named Beetlejuice.

Mary

Mary

Client Care Specialist

Mary’s very first veterinarian impressed her with his thoroughness and his willingness to go the extra mile. He was also diligent about educating Mary about every step of the care process. That experience made a permanent impression—she knew she would love to help others in the same way! That’s why Mary decided to join the veterinary profession herself.

Mary became a receptionist at her local animal hospital in 2008. She hasn’t looked back since. Mary spent seven years helping pets and owners at the front desk there, then took a job at another clinic for a few years. In May 2019, she reconnected with Dr. Falck—having previously worked with her at another hospital—to take on a new adventure in the world of mobile integrative veterinary medicine.

As a member of the Petwise team, Mary particularly enjoys learning something new on an almost daily basis. She also likes to talk with pet owners directly and help them through tough situations.

At home, Mary shares her life with six rescued cats: Buffy, a sweet and timid calico; Manny, the elder statesman of the bunch; a drama queen named JuJu; a long-haired beauty named Nugget; Cruiser the orange and white cat; and a three-legged menace who goes by Bunny Rabbit.

Julie

Julie

Client Care Specialist

Born and raised in Georgia, Julie has had the good fortune of also living in several other US cities over the years, including Seattle, WA and Frederick, MD. Regardless of her geographical location, Julie has always carried with her a lifelong love of animals and a passion for ensuring their wellbeing. As a Care Team Member, Julie plays a role in helping pet owners provide their animal companions with truly amazing lives.

Prior to joining Petwise, Julie dedicated 10 years of her life to animal welfare, working for both Atlantic Humane Society, where she served as the Admission Manager and Rescue Transport Coordinator, as well as Seattle Humane Society. Her work in animal rescue and welfare has been instrumental in helping reduce euthanasia of unwanted animals by creating transport partnerships throughout the east coast. Through this work, Julie has also taken part in several rescue missions to help animals during natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, and fires, as well as puppy mills and hoarding situations.

Julie made the decision to join the Petwise Vet Care team because it offered her the opportunity to work directly with pet owners and assist in the ongoing care of their pets. She loves making individual connections with clients and sharing her knowledge of pet care.

Outside of work, Julie resides in Dunwoody with her sweet senior dog, Dotti, and her silly and sometimes insane kitten, Poppy. In her free time, you will usually find Julie walking in the park with Dotti, hiking in the mountains, or using her camera to capture photos of wildlife.

Atheena

Atheena

Veterinary Technician

Atheena has always had a heart for animals, as she feels they are the last pure things on this planet. She knew she wanted to one day work in the veterinary industry but wasn’t sure if anyone would give her the opportunity without prior experience. Fortunately, Dr. Falck saw potential in her and gave her a chance. As one of our amazing veterinary technicians, Atheena is honored to serve our clients and their animal family members.

Atheena’s journey began right here at Petwise when she took a leap of faith and applied for a job. Since joining the team, she has been learning everything she can and gaining valuable hands-on experience each and every day. Professionally, she enjoys sorting and organizing vaccines and medical equipment. Most importantly, she loves seeing patients get better and witnessing the joy their recovery brings to their owners.

At home, Atheena has two rabbits: a Netherland dwarf mix named Pebble and a New Zealand/California mix named Toasty. Pebble knows how to do tricks like “spin” and “stand” and is incredibly goofy. She thumps whenever she doesn’t get her way and she’ll jump all over you just to get a treat. She is also incredibly affectionate. She kisses all over Atheena’s cheeks and constantly grooms her. Toasty is a total space cadet who can also do tricks, albeit slowly. The two are very close and love to cuddle together.

In her free time, Atheena loves to draw, though she says she’s terrible at it. Her favorite mediums are pixel art and rough sketches. She also enjoys writing, cooking, and baking.

Kyla

Kyla

Veterinarian Technician

Growing up in a family of nurses, caregiving was in Kyla’s blood. She spent several years in human healthcare before realizing that her heart longed for patients who were of the four-legged and furry variety. Working with animals is a whole different world, but one that Kyla finds incredibly gratifying. As a veterinary technician, she feels as though she’s finally found her calling in life!

Prior to joining the Petwise team, Kyla spent several years working with the Charles Smithgall Humane Society. It was there that she met and adopted one of her beloved German shepherds, Freedom, who was rescued from a puppy mill. The experience of slowly but surely earning his trust has only solidified Kyla’s passion for animals.

After a brief stint at another clinic, Kyla joined Petwise and has quickly become an integral member of the team. Professionally, she loves meeting new clients, learning new things, and most importantly, loving on animals all day!

At home, Kyla is dog-mom to five shepherds: a gentle giant named Bear Weasley, a hot mess named Freedom Snape, a wiggle-butt named Harry Potter, a level-headed rescue named Jacob Lupin, and a retired service dog named Ryker Lovegood. She recently had to say goodbye to her other shepherd, Rocky Dumbledore, and a rescued King Charles named Sadie Heromine, both of whom will forever hold a special place in her heart. In case you couldn’t tell, Kyla is a huge Harry Potter fan.
