Simple Things That Make Cats Happy

September 1, 2023

September is Happy Cat Month! We’re definitely on board with this kitty holiday. We believe that all animals—from the tiniest Betta fish to massive elephants—deserve to be happy, healthy, comfortable, and safe. Read on as a Clarkesville, GA vet lists some things that will get Fluffy’s motor going.

Window Seats

As you may have noticed, we always advocate for keeping cats indoors. In fact, grounding your feline friend can protect her from a whole slew of hazards, including cars, weather, chemicals, other animals, and many parasites and diseases. However, kitties really do enjoy watching birds and squirrels, and daydreaming about hunting them. Offer your furry little voyeur a comfy spot in front of a window with an interesting view.

Catnip

It doesn’t get much easier than this. Fluffy is always adorable when she’s under the influence, so to speak. If your cat likes catnip, indulge her every now and then. You don’t have to worry about your furry buddy overdosing or getting addicted: the effects wear off after a few minutes. If you want something super cute, consider getting your furball catnip bubbles.

Enrichment

Life would be pretty boring with nothing to do but stare at the walls all day. That is true for both people and pets. It’s important for Fluffy to have entertainment and stimulation. Give your kitty plenty of fun toys, and take time to play with her regularly. Cats all have their own preferences for playthings, so try new things and see what yours likes.

Purrniture

Fluffy isn’t too shy about using our furniture and belongings, but she does enjoy having things that were made to fit her needs. You don’t have to go too crazy, but you should consider getting your feline pal something she doesn’t have to share with her humans. (Cat towers are the purrfect option here.)

Hiding Spots

It doesn’t get much easier than this! Offer your cute pet an empty box every now and then. Paper bags (without handles) will also please your feline overlord.

Love

Last but not least, just pay attention to your feline buddy. Talk to Fluffy, pet her, play with her, and let her snooze on your lap. Kitties get very attached to their humans! And just like any other pet, they’re always happiest when they feel loved and safe.

Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns about your cat’s health or care. As your Clarkesville, GA animal clinic, we’re here to help!
