Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is just a few weeks off. Your canine buddy will be happy to help ‘supervise’ as you get ready for the big feast! Bath
While your furry pal would probably be more than happy to bury this suggestion in the backyard, he really should look his best for the holiday. You don’t want your company being greeted by a stinky dog! Give Fido a bath, or take him to the groomer.
Playtime
Is your pup a bouncing ball of energy? Take Fido for a long walk, and then tire him out with a vigorous play session. Your four-legged friend will be calmer—and therefore better behaved—after a good doggy workout.
Door Doggy
Fido takes his duties of greeting guests very seriously. If your pooch is a jumper, keep him in another area as people are coming and going. You don’t want your furry bff knocking your elderly aunt over!
Guest Approval
We all know the tried-and-true method of greeting dogs is usually to let them sniff our hands. Unless Fido has aggressive issues, let him meet and greet visitors. If your pet is new and/or nervous, have a bowl of (small) treats on hand for guests to offer.
Begging
Begging is not only bad petiquette: it can also become dangerous, as Fido could end up getting something that isn’t safe. If your pooch gets theatrical around dinnertime, put him in a separate area as you’re eating.
Dinner
Begging aside, your canine pal definitely deserves a yummy meal. You can offer your canine companion some plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken, without the skin, bones, or fat. Just stick to safe foods. Don’t offer Fido meat on the bone, garlic or onions, grapes or raisins, or other unsafe foods. Ask your vet for more information.
Nap
Once dinner is over, your pup will be ready for another walk … and then a nice, long nap. Enjoy some quiet quality time with Fido as you wind down with leftovers and a good movie. Dogs are truly something to be thankful for!
